JL - 31.3.17 A3 60103 1Z72 Oxenhope - Carllisle, Lunds

One of my favourite locations for northbound steam is Lunds. I love the low angle and head on composition where I can get the boiler just breaking the line of the fells behind. Usually with a westerly wind the exhaust will blow down behind the smokebox which helps lift it from the usually dull scene. Another visit was therefore in order today for the exciting re-opening special. It's been almost 14 months since through trains ran the length of the S&C and today was the day! Bizarrely a random freight movement became the first through freight working, when a York - Coatbridge FHH working appeared earlier in the morning. The service trains had reopening headboards but the main event was 'Flying Scotsman' on 1Z72 Oxenhope - Carlisle which blasted through Lunds ahead of time. Wonderful!
