14.1.12 - 66043 6E85 Hunterston - Drax, Smardale

6E85 has been a fairly regular runner on Saturdays for some time and as the day was cold, clear and bright I headed out for the morning. Smardale is the obvious location for mid / late morning southbound trains in winter as the line at this point is actually running due west, but for a degree of variety I opted for a lower angle than my normal preferred vantage point further up the hillside. I think it's produced a really attractive image as 66043 is seen heaving the Hunterston - Drax loaded coal working through a frozen scene. Apparently there was another southbound coal (FHH) this morning as well, but I missed that one.
