2.5.07 Unidentified 142 Leeds - Carlisle, Smardale Viaduct

I usually like to have my captions as detailed as possible but in this case it's very difficult to provide much more than what's obvious! Following some long delays earlier in the day the timetable was in chaos because this passenger working was running at least 2 hours late, we can assume that the delays were caused by unit failure which accounts for the fact that a 142 unit has been pressed into action over the S&C route. Either way, I'm sure my view from the hillside at Smardale viaduct was a lot more comfortable than the seats aboard the crowded head-banging unit on this sun filled evening in early May. This shot was published in the 'Line by Line - Settle & Carlisle' book by Martin Buck.
