JL - 14.5.16 47851 57601 1Z67 Appleby - Hereford, Greengates

A shot this afternoon that reminded me how much I'm missing photographing the S&C, especially when conditions are like this. The Cumbrian coast is nice for a complete change and the WCML is OK but nothing compares to my favourite route - nothing else even comes close. The good news is that excursion trains have recently restarted, despite the on-going closure due to landslip and the required significant earthworks at Eden Brows, and are running as far as Appleby. I think this is the third or fourth week of operation but the first time that the weather has been kind. In stunning Spring conditions with a clear atmosphere and a cold wind 47851 storms through Greengates with 1Z67 Appleby - Hereford tour. A perfect day for passengers to enjoy the Pennine scenery. 57601 was bringing up the rear. It was just like old times for me, as I had the place to myself. This shot was published in the July edition of Railway Express magazine and would be one of only 2 S&C shots of mine published in 2016. Some drought!
