12.5.10 66178 6S00 Clitheroe - Mossend, Bull Gill

It was an unusual day today weather-wise. At first light there wasn't cloud in the sky but as the day wore on the strong cold easterly winds brought more and more cloud and just before lunchtime we had complete cloud cover and even patches of heavy rain. That continued throughout the afternoon until around 5pm when things started to break up leaving a very fine but cold early evening. I had missed my shot of the morning southbound cement due to very late running (136 minuntes down) because of loco failure. However the return loaded run was running ahead of time, seen passing Bull Gill at 18.40 behind 66178, the quick turn around no doubt helped by the very short formation of only 5 wagons. It's often overlooked but this location is a great alternative to Birkett Common for early evening northbound freights in summer, plus the view of Mallerstang edge is one of the best on the line.
