JL - 22.4.17 46115 1Z87 Carlisle - London Euston, Gallansay

Some traction problems on the outward leg of todays Cumbrian Mountain Express had a knock on effect for Scots Guardsman's S&C southbound run. The ex-LMS Royal Scot was an hour and a half late leaving Carlisle and even later when it climbed through the upper Eden Valley. This was not a problem for photographers waiting en-route because the skies were clear and the light was improving. My original plan had been to get a shot either side of Appleby (Newbiggin / Causey Brow)but with such a late departure missing the Appleby water stop was a possibility. So I chose to concentrate on one shot and headed for Gallansay. 46115 pounds south at an impressive speed whilst the cloud covered Pennines provide a suitable backdrop.
