4.10.09 - LNER A1 'Pacific' 60163, 1Z93 Carlisle - York, Keld

For Tornado's return run with 'The Waverley' from Carlisle to York I had originally planned to be further north but advancing cloud meant that the best chance for sun would be just north of Appleby. I stood in unbroken sunshine for well over an hour at Keld and although the foreground was complete shadow by the time the A1 appeared the shot was still very pleasing. Against a backdrop of Pennine fells the popular locomotive eases towards its Appleby stop. For added difficulty many of my shots these days are taken one-handed with a 2 stone todler balancing in the other arm or on my shoulders! This shot was published in The Railway Magazine Dec 2009 edition.
