2.5.14 - 66425 & 66304 6K05 Carlisle - Crewe, Ais Gill

As can be seen the sun around the middle of the day is now getting very much 'overhead' and flat looking images are the result. In my view, this shot is also not helped by the very dark shadow which was encroaching on the scene, the leading loco cab front seems to become lost in the background darkness. However, 2 DRS 66s on 6K05 is not a very common sight and so I've included this image on my site for the time being for the novelty value alone. 66425 & 66304 were getting ahead of time on their journey down the Eden Valley and were around 18 minutes early at Kirkby Stephen. As they rounded the corner at Mallerstang it was clear to see why, they were pounding upgrade at an impressive speed with a relatively lightly loaded 6K05 Carlisle - Crewe engineers diagram. At least the sight and sound were impressive even if the choice of DRS traction could be improved upon.
