24.7.11 LMS 5MT No. 45407 Carlisle - York 'Waverley', Ormside

I had two locations in mind for this afternoon's southbound 'Waverley' tour from Carlisle to York, thinking that the Class 5 would probably take the Appleby water stop I wanted to be somewhere just south of the town so as to have the best chance of some exhaust. I headed for Ormside where, against a clear Pennine backdrop (unusual for a hot day in high Summer), LMS 5MT 45407 is seen hammering up the first mile of 'Long Drag'. In hindsight, the Causey Brow location would've been a better option, even from my vantage point here, south of Ormside viaduct, I could see and hear a spectacular and volcanic departure from Appleby. Still, there's always next time.
