JL - 5.1.25 47802 0Z74 Carlisle - Carlisle, Kirkby Stephen

Overnight snowfall on Sat night created significant travel disruption for northern England on Sunday 5th Jan. The first southbound passenger of the day was on time until Horton, after which it was 35 mins behind all the way to Leeds. In the down direction the first train didn't make it past Skipton. Up at Kirkby Stephen station the automated station announcements were informing the empty platforms of the amber snow warnings in force and asking passengers not to travel. The snow had just started to fall again creating blizzard like conditions just as 47802 (sans ploughs) passed on a route proving run working under headcode 0Z74 Carlisle - Carlisle. The signaller watched on from the warmth (hopefully) of the signal box.
