JL - 30.7.20 47593 5Z40 06:50 Appleby - Skipton, Ais Gill Summit

Since the S&C 'stay-cation' shuttles were announced and timings were confirmed, this is the shot I wanted to secure. One of my favorite locations on the line and one that looks great in early morning light. A classic loco & livery combination at a classic S&C location, there couldn't be a better way to start the day. 47593 'Galloway Princess' running around 10 early, hammers over the summit with 5Z40 06:50 Appleby - Skipton ECS. The shadows towards the end of the train helpfully disguising the visual impact of the mk2 and green 37. In quiet moments when waiting in the fells in good conditions I've often passed time by thinking about the question - if I could have any loco & stock from any era what would I prefer to have turn up? My choice will be odd to some, but I'd have a large logo 47, red name and depot logo prominent, on a mixed rake of blue / grey and IC stock with a mix of mk2s and mk3s. So this shot isn't too far away from my ideal S&C picture.
