JL - 30.1.24 66122 6K06 Shap - Crewe, Beckfoot - West Coast Main Line (north to south)
Just the shot I had in mind for today. We started under thick cloud but just as forecast, this drifted south by lunchtime leaving the area around Tebay under cloudless skies. 66122 had left Shap summit quarry a little late with 6K06 loaded ballast boxes for Crewe, which then meant it didn't need to take its booked loops at Oxenholme, Carnforth, and Oubeck. In fact, it was an hour up by the time it reached Preston. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to escape the desk early enough to see 6H51 but this shot more than made up for that. Believe it or not, with skies like this, I had total cloud cover at Greengates for K05 and J37 just an hour or so later.
