JL - 1.9.20 47593 06:50 Appleby - Skipton ECS, White Birch Cottage

What a great way to start the day. Having done the morning shot at the summit earlier in the Summer, and with time running out for the Staycation Express, I opted for the White Birch Cottage shot on this cloudless morning which gave way to a beautiful September day. It was officially the first day of Autumn and I made the short walk to this spot over lightly frozen fields for the first time this year. The attractive large logo liveried 47593 'Galloway Princess' puts down some power at White Birch Cottage as the Ais Gill IBS home signal comes into view whilst hauling the 06:50 Appleby -Skipton ECS. Soon the hordes that have filled the line side locations will disappear and chase other 'targets' and I'll have the place almost to myself again. But what a nice working to have witnessed and photographed during Summer 2020. In quiet moments when waiting in the fells in good conditions I've often passed time by thinking about the question - if I could have any loco & stock from any era what would I prefer to have turn up? My choice will be odd to some, but I'd have a large logo 47, red name and depot logo prominent, on a mixed rake of blue / grey and IC stock with a mix of mk2s and mk3s. So this shot isn't too far away from my ideal S&C picture.
