20.11.13 - 37611 & 37605 6C27 Carlisle - Shap, Shap Summit

Thunder in the Fells 3: For the 3rd time in November I was able to capture double headed tractors on a working over the Shap route. Today, just like the day before a pair of DRS 37s appeared on the Shap ballast diagram. The empty southbound run to Shap from Carlisle Yard was timed in a later path and was therefore running as an STP job. The crew and signalers however must've been keen to make up time because all booked loops were missed. With so much cloud around I wasn't taking anything for granted today so I headed for Shap summit aiming to get at least 1 shot in sun as the working sat in the loop for the best part of 45mins. When I heard the 37s powering up from Shap village it became obvious that they wouldn't be stopping! A track worker encroaching on the scene forced a last-minute quick lens change to my 70-210mm and this very powerful image was the result. 37611 & 37605 thunder through Shap with 6C27 Carlisle - Shap empty stone. This picture was published in The Railway Magazine in early 2014.
