The old photographers used to write about the quality of the light on Shap. When railway photography was in its infancy the pioneers of our hobby believed there was something unique about the light quality in this area. Being based locally, with ample opportunity to appreciate, it's not a theory I totally subscribe to but on evenings like this you can't help but think maybe there's something to this legend. Under stunning stormy skies DRS workhorse 88006 'Juno' makes light work of the steep climb to Shap summit with 4S44 Daventry - Mossend. The cloud was slow moving and I'd selected this spot to maximise the photographic potential of this cloudscape.
