It's easy to bemoan today's rail scene as static and uninteresting and I've been guilty of that myself but sometimes it's helpful to remember what we do have left to enjoy. This afternoon I spent a few hours photting around Penrith, a spell that produced 3 northbound and 1 southbound freight with a couple of EMU mail trains to boot, better still I was in the company of an old mate. What could be better? Everything we wanted came in decent light and this was the undoubted highlight. Just as the evening sun illuminated the scene, 4M80 Coatbridge - Basford Hall races over the M6 at Penrith behind Freightliner pair 90011 and stablemate 90012. Helpfully, tonight's 'liner was loaded up to the locos which makes for a much better result. Cloud scenes were fantastic tonight.
