Gin clear winter light graced the Eden Valley on this fine Sunday and with a perfectly timed railtour due through Kirkby at 2pm I was keen to make the most of this rare opportunity. Unfortunately, the expected Deltic 'Royal Scots Grey' apparently failed and couldn't take over from Carlisle as planned. Instead 57311 'The Institution of Mechanical Engineers' in lined black livery led 1Z60 Edinburgh - London Kings Cross over the S&C. 37409 was working hard on the rear. I was on the ground at Greengates and the drone was in the air at Birkett to capture a few lovely images. I'm sure the passengers were enjoying their views of the snow covered fells as they travelled south.
