Travelling so much by rail for work brings many ups and downs. Any journey on Avanti West Coast in the last few years has to be considered a low point. Their appalling service continues to plum new depths and as such I look for alternative routes to London and the Thames Valley. One of my favourite alternatives if the work timetable allows is to take the 10:55 Chiltern service from Birmingham Moor St to Marylebone. Typically loco hauled, it's a fast, efficient and very cheap service. Much more reliable than the debacle on the WCML. On this occasion I alighted at High Wycombe and dashed over the footbridge for a quick phone grab as 68015 continued south for the capital.
