27.7.11 47760 & LMS 'Royal Scot' 46115 Carlisle - Lancaster, Appleby

Just to prove that contrary to some opinions it doesn't always go may way! Waiting this afternoon for the Fellsman to depart Appleby it didn't sound as though it was the volcanic departure that I was after. When the train appeared around the corner I found out why. Apparentley, firebox problems at Carlisle meant that the Scot was hauled by the West Coast 47 throughout on the return journey. The best laid plans eh? Snow-plough fitted 47760 hauls 46115 'Scots Gaurdsman' away from Appleby past Causey Brow with the return leg of the Fellsman from Carlisle to Lancaster. This shot was published in the 'Line by Line - Settle & Carlisle' book by Martin Buck.
